Looks like the Lord cleared the skies and calmed the waters for what proved to be another great year on Ol' Blue. We started out the morning following what seemed like an armada out of Newport Harbor for the spring halibut opener. Swells were out of the North at three to four feet with light winds forecasted.
After traveling West approx. eighteen miles and locating our favorite GPS coordinates, we dropped our tuna bellies soaked in scent about 245 feet. After about fifteen minutes Gary Lewis's rod displays a strike - "fish on" Gary replied as he reeled up a nice 35lb. halibut. Not too long after my rod took a hit as I set the hook and brought aboard about a 15lb. halibut (good stuff - Yum Yum).
By the end of the day with three boats together we managed to boat six halibut.
Great day, enjoying friends and family while pursuing the outdoors!
